Dear Mr. Barker,
Thank you for contacting NRDC.  In order to retain our tax exemption status as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, we must remain non-partisan.  While we can and do speak about specific issues and policies (including advocating for or against particular pieces of legislation), we cannot endorse individual candidates or political parties, nor financially contribute to them.
If you are interested in information about the environmental voting records of U.S. representatives and senators, you may want to contact the League of Conservation Voters ( http://www.lcv.org/ ).  Their National Environmental Scorecard includes a composite score for overall environmental voting, as well as information about individual votes.
Again, thank you for writing to NRDC and for your interest in our work.
Sincerely,
NRDC Membership

Subject: The hidden agenda

Dear concerned citizen,

I received notification today that the U.S. Senate will take action within two weeks on the the Climate Security Act.  The letter stated that 'various deep-pocketed climate skeptics and special interests are relying on scare tactics and misinformation campaigns to sway the showdown in their favor, and Big Oil and Big Coal are hell-bent on sabotaging the bill. And climate skeptics are introducing "decoy" global warming bills—like the one recently proposed by Senator George Voinovich (R-OH)—that would allow global warming pollution to increase for decades.'
If the Congress were free to take action on global warming without climate skeptics, special interests, the coal and oil corporations, what would they do?
We already know - Congress has already taken action on attempting to solve global warming, and not only has the solution not worked, it is actually contributing to the problem.  I am referring to the 'ethanol solution' - alcohol from corn.  This was supposed to reduce our consumption of petroleum by converting the crop into fuel.
Instead of reducing our use of petroleum, we are learning that it takes so much fossil fuel to produce the corn and the alcohol yields so little energy that there is essentially no net reduction of fossil fuel.  In addition, due to converting corn to alcohol the price of the crop has doubled, resulting in starvation in Mexico .  In addition, tropical rain forests are being cleared to grow the crop.
It is obvious we need a sane solution to the energy crises.  I am considering running for office, and am looking for people who want change.
I welcome your efforts to work with me.

Thank you,
Daniel Barker
