Dear Mr. Barker,
Thank you for contacting NRDC and sharing your concerns about the Peruvian rainforest, Wyoming ’s Red Desert , and other environmental issues. NRDC is currently working to protect the Tahuamanu Rainforest in Peru , which is one of our BioGems: http://www.savebiogems.org/tahuamanu/. You can take action on this site by sending a letter to the Peruvian government asking them to do their part to curtail illegal mahogany exports: http://www.nrdconline.org/campaign/biogems_tahuamanu_0407
In regards to what you can do to help, you are correct that solar energy is a good place to start. Small changes to our lifestyles, like switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs, recycling and composting, installing solar panels, being careful about electricity and water usage, and choosing a more environmentally-friendly car like a hybrid are all ways to help the environment. Remember that you can take action also by letting your Representatives, Senators, and other legislators know how you feel about certain issues that are important to you on our Action Fund website: http://www.nrdcactionfund.org/campaigns/mobilizing-america-for-our-environment.html

Subject: the price of freedom

NRDC

Dear concerned citizen,

I have realized for a while about your statement that the majority of Americans have no idea that purchasing these products they are driving the destruction of Peru 's rain forests and threatening the survival of vulnerable indigenous communities.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance, as the RSPCA and the Abolitionists learned in the nineteenth century.  Neither the government or business will ultimately protect our rights, it is our duty.
It is up to us to stop the loggers armed with guns.  It us up to us to bring this to the public attention.
People learn; I have never in my life seen any baby seal skin, so I know the market has been limited for more than fifty years to rare individuals, which means there is a strong boycott of clubbing baby seals.
What can I do to help?
